avalanche training and education, a key to making our sport safe
If you are interested in getting yourself educated , here is a great place to start. The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) is a non-government, not for profit organization dedicated to public avalanche safety. You can start with their online avalanche course (it's free!) It's a great way to gain an understanding of avalanche safety basics or to refresh your avalanche knowledge after a long summer.
The next step is an Avalanche Skills Training course. With an AST course you'll learn the vital fundamentals of travelling in avalanche terrain. For more info on the CAC or to get involved with their programs, visit them here.

Crown Skis is proud to announce the launch of their 2010/11 Product Line-up including the refined Kensho and the totally updated and redesigned Satori. We had a chance to ski these at the 2011 powder ski test last year, and they surprised us, to say the least. A locally built ski that rips it up and comes in a selection of different graphics. Check out Crown's latest creations here.

Tired of reading the same old ski tests in the magazines each year? Have you ever been to a ski test and wondered what these beautiful powder skis you are skiing on would be like actually in the powder where they belong rather than on the corrduroy? So did we and that is why Catskiing.ca and Big Red Cats decided to do something about it.
Excavation time is by far the biggest contributing factor in avalanche fatalities. By reducing or eliminating burial depth you substantially increase your chances of survival. The Float 30 is the first airbag that is both affordable and easily reusable. Back Country Access uses a smaller cylinder, single–chamber 150–liter airbag, and super–efficient venturi system to reduce cost and weight. The airbag itself not only helps prevent burial, but protects the head, neck and upper body from trauma. With its location behind the head and away from the hips and arms, it preserves the user’s peripheral vision and his or her ability to escape the avalanche before it picks up speed. Click here for more info and a demo video of the BCA Float 30
